LM701 STOL N1345L
Rear Fuselage Access Panel
Since I built my rear access door in the tail of the fuselage, I have used it many times. I suppose Zenith's thoughts were that you need to do everything you need to do before you close the fuselage up. I personally think this is illogical logic.
At some point in time you will need to access the rear of the fuselage. For instance, I put my ELT in the rear and now after I have weighed the aircraft I find the I will need to install my batteries and possibly more weight in the rear, in order to achieve the desired CG.
Can you image climbing into the belly service opening, carrying batteries, associated wiring, an ELT with wiring/antenna, and some other form of weight all to the tail. Hooking it all up, then backing out. That's not even considering taking the tools and parts with you for making brackets, drilling holes, etc. After you get out, you weigh the craft again, climb back in and add more or take some out. And how about maintenance? Wouldn't that be a nightmare? If you happen to be a larger person, you are in real trouble.
Here's my solution and I HIGHLY recommend it.
