Now the figuring out part!

Page 2

There were several issues I needed to address or just plain figure out how to do it.

I wanted to use the Samurai transmission.  In order for the Sammy clutch to work, the flywheel had to mount to something.  I cut the butt end of the crankshaft off the old engine.  Bored the piece to accept an axle I turned on my lathe.  Welded the two together to form a straight crankshaft.  Then I took a high speed axle hub off a boat trailer, cut it down and cut a stop in it to accept a thrust bearing.  Mounted all that on a 3/8" steel plate I cut to fit the bell housing.  Here is a picture.  Maybe you can get a better idea for it.

After I got all that done I fitted the engine into the engine compartment.  I used a heavy duty U-Joint to couple the two together.  Here is a to view showing the hookup.

Here is a front view with the engine sitting in the Sammy held in place with ropes.

Next on page three, I deal with engine mounts and cooling issues.
