"GroundHawg"
Finished
Page 5
Well it's finally finished. And, I am happy to report that it works great and sounds even better. It will flat haul ass. I haven't driven it much yet and certainly not wide open. It has a lot of low end torque and very rapid acceleration. I will report more as I continue to test my one and only GroundHawg.
The largest and most troubling obstacle I had to overcome was the coupler between the engine and transmission. I built several versions and kept breaking them. The output shaft from the engine is 1.125" with 10 splines. I built a solid input shaft to the transmission. It basically looks like the end of the old crank shaft but straight. And as shown on an earlier page, it goes through a 3/8" plate with two high speed bearings.
After trying to build my own coupler by welding spline inserts inside U-joint yokes and continually spinning them out, I discovered that a Dana 40 differential uses a 10 spline 1.125" pinion yoke. These are used mostly on Jeeps. I bought two of them, put them back to back with a U-joint in between to make a coupler. Here is a couple of pictures.

Here is a new picture of the engine.

Here are some outside pictures.

And, finally some pictures of the interior.
